Watching the "fish"

A few months ago, Jeffrey decided to join the Maple Mountain swim team.  Fair enough, I thought, until we found out that they hold their practices EVERYDAY AT 5 AM! Sheesh!!  This meant that one of us "parent types" would be required to wake up before the roosters, to get him to the pool, that is 15 minutes away from our house!  You see, he doesn't have his drivers license yet because he isn't 16 (in 2 weeks) and he doesn't have his Eagle Scout yet.  He's so close to both requirements that it hurts.  No, really.  If he doesn't get a move on and get that eagle project done...I'll hurt him!!  Just kidding...sort of.

Back to swimming.  So for two months now, Dave has faithfully gotten him there, on time and with no little complaining from either of them.  Yesterday they had their first, sort of, quasi, swim meet.  When I say sort of, I mean that it was a swim meet against the coaches and family members.

It all started out fair enough but quickly turned into the coaches sabotaging the team swimmers by doing sneaky things like: just before the swimmers would win, the coaches would jump in front of them and hold them back.  Or the coaches would only swim half the length of the pool and turn around and head for the finish.
It was actually very entertaining to watch and it didn't take long before the kids started to counter sabotage the coaches.

I was really fun to watch Jeffrey swim.  I mean, he can really swim!  Who knew?  At one point, the coaches had flippers on and he still could have beat them, if they hadn't sabotaged him.

That's Jeffrey taking the lead in backstroke

Superman!
Next weekend is their first REAL swim meet.  We'll see how he compares to those kids.
